Contributions to Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) above ₹2.5 lakh a year will be kept in a separate basket and taxed in a similar way as fixed deposits, without any double taxation, said Kamlesh Varshney, joint secretary, tax policy division at the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
