ITR Refund: A taxpayer is eligible for an income tax refund if they have paid taxes that exceed their actual tax liability. Here is a step-by-step guide to verifying the status of an income tax refund.
Taxpayers are eligible for tax refunds if the amount they have paid in taxes exceeds their actual tax liability. When taxpayers claim refunds on their income tax returns, the tax department processes them and notifies the taxpayers about the refund amount they are entitled to under Section 143(1) through the CPC.
Once your income tax return (ITR) has been processed, the CPC processes your tax refund within 20 to 45 days. If you haven’t received your refund, the first step is to visit the e-filing portal or NSDL and check the status.
Step 1: Go to the income tax e-filing portal.
Step 2: Log in to the e-Filing website using your User ID, Password, Date of Birth/Date of Incorporation, and enter the Captcha.
Step 3: Navigate to the “My Account” section and click on “Refund/Demand Status.”
Step 4: From the drop-down menu, select “Income Tax Returns” and click on Submit.
Step 5: Locate and click on your acknowledgment number. Please note that for the financial year 2022-23, the assessment year is AY 2023-24.
Step 6: A new webpage will appear, providing you with comprehensive details of your filed income tax return (ITR). These details include the date of filing the ITR, processing status, and the date of refund issuance.
By following these steps, you will be able to access a complete overview of your ITR filing, including the status of your refund.
